The West Coast skyline is set to go dark for 17 days starting May 5 as the removal process of the Pacific Wheel Ferris wheel begins in preparation for the installation of an all-new Pacific Wheel Ferris wheel at Pacific Park® on the Santa Monica Pier. The world-famous solar-powered Ferris wheel will receive a larger-than-life makeover as the superstar, nine-story attraction is replaced with a contemporary state-of-the-art Ferris wheel at the two-acre seaside amusement park.

The reveal, scheduled to kick-off the Memorial Day weekend, will dazzle onlookers with an all-new lighting package illuminating the Southern California coastline with 160,000 energy-efficient LED lights replacing the 5,392 red, white and blue traditional light bulbs that now flicker on the wheel’s spokes and hub. The enhanced LED lighting will provide higher energy savings while complementing the solar-power application. Featuerd as a backdrop in countless feature films, nightly newscasts and more, the new illumination package will also display dynamic, eye-popping computer-generated lighting entertainment in the evenings.

“Forever in the celebrity spotlight, the Pacific Wheel has a very impressive list of credits with appearances in more than 105 photo shoots, 71 television commercials, 69 television shows, 28 feature films and 13 music videos,” says Jeff Klocke, director of marketing and sales at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. “The all-new Ferris wheel will continue to be seen by millions and generate the type of Hollywood buzz it’s enjoyed over the years including top billing in the opening shots for NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno and appearing in television’s number one program, American Idol, on FOX.”

The Pacific Wheel, which has provided more than 3 million rides in its 12 years of operation, stands 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean, features 20 gondolas with a maximum six riders per car and can accommodate up to 800 riders per hour.

The all-new $1.5 million Ferris wheel is being manufactured by Chance Morgan Rides Manufacturing Inc. in Wichita Kan., and will have comparable rider capacity and mechanical specifications.

as the semester comes to an end, the only thing i can say is, that i actually stayed to the end, unlike my English class last semester, which i dropped (withdrew) right before the midterm, because i am not the kind of person who likes English. so all i can imagine is that even if i don’t pass this semester, i tried my hardest well slightly under my hardest, and i stuck to going to English class even-though i missed a few days, roughly 5, and even-though i left early or came late sometimes.

Littering…

problem: littering is a big problem in the world today. littering in the beach has caused many people to get injured because they step on a can and cut their feet open, they get hurt by stepping on trash left behind by the people that were on the beach earlier.

This year for spring break, I went to the east coast with my parents. We left California Wednesday, March 12th, in the afternoon, and did not come back until yesturday, Sunday, March 23rd. During this east coast vacation my parents and I visited Charlotte, North Carolina, The District of Columbia, Washington D.C., Virginia, New Jersey, and Manhattan, New York. In Washington D.C. and Manhattan, we took a bus tour which took us around the areas and talked a little bit about it. From Los Angeles to Charlotte, we flew, but from Charlotte to D.C. and D.C. to Manhattan and Manhattan to Charlotte, we drove. The driving was long and boring, but it was well worth it, to see the things you would never see by flying from place to place.

In many ways, the popular use of borderline expletives impacts ones speech and social settings by them picking up words that should not be used. The article that was written by Marlon Manuel, “Kinda Cussin’”, Manuel is in Atlanta observing grade-school students. In this paper I will talk about the article written by Manuel, how use of expletives has an impact on one’s speech and social settings, and how it does not have an impact on one’s speech and social settings.

In an article written by Marlon Manuel, “Kinda Cussin’”, Manuel talks about how grade-school students are not cussing yet, but will be cussing pretty soon due to their natural standing and everybody around them. On the television shows of many comedians which have cursing in their acts, but cannot be said on over the television unless the rating is “R” or “17+”, if the show was suitable for people of all ages with a rating of “PG” then the curse words would be bleeped out or dubbed with some other word. On the ever-so-popular television show “Everybody Loves Raymond” the phrase “Holy Crap” is the favored expression (Marlon Manuel, “Kinda Cussin’”, ‘Holy Crap’). Many people these days gets there improper and impolite grammar from television shows, and movies. Which leads me to my next point, does one’s surroundings make a difference on their speech and social settings.

The surroundings that a person has does have an impact on their speech and socials settings because if they hear it they will start saying it. If someone is listening to a song and the artist (musician) they are listening to says a bad word, they might think to their self and say “Hey, if he is saying that word on his song, that must make it a cool word,” and then they start saying it and spreading it to their friends, and it continues to spread through their surrounding. So watching one’s favorite television show, going out with friends, watching a newly released movie, listening to a music CD, anything could have an impact on their social settings and the speech, and tone of voice. Which leads me to my final topic, can any of those things be a factor to one’s speech used.

The surroundings of one person are not an impact to their speech and social settings. If someone is going to curse, they are going to curse no matter what. The curse words did not magically appear, nor where they spread, did they come across because the government probably thought those words could be harmful if used towards other people. The words are mentioned today as impolite and improper grammar, due to the words being offensive. So the surroundings of the people should not have an impact on their speech and social settings because if they are going to curse the words will be used no matter what.

In conclusion one’s social surroundings cannot should not have an impact on the person, the only way to use the word is to listen to the word and keep it.
